Guernsey sprint April 2008
The day started with rain and then changed to sun so racing was good. This was the first run of the newly rebuild sprinter and even though we nagged Jez to give it a try out before there just wasn't time. So with all of us watching on the line and all eyes wondering what this weird and wacky machine was.... A loud voice on the tannoy saying that you should all watch this thing go - lights changed from red to green, Jez popped the clutch and no movement from scooter just the sound of grinding gears.. Ow dear and a bit embarassing for all. Back to the pits and 10 mins later the gears were re set up and eady for the second run.
Lights red, still red, still red, still red what seemed like for ever lights changed popped the clutch and ow dear clutch is cooked but after scoot crawled forward clucth cut in and of it flew and not bad, went ok.
Third run and after another tweak in the pits, Jez got a good start and times were around the 16 second mark.
Another run and a little quicker, back to pits and change of exhaust tweaked carb but no more runs that day as oil was spilt on the track.
New motor:Under development The next motor is based around a TS. The stroke is 64mm with a 120mm Rotax rod. To achieve this the cases needed a considerable amount of welding and machining to ensure that the crank fitted but also retained stength as a very deep channel is needed in the cases for the conrod to have clearance. Additionally the cylinder needs to be 11mm longer than standard, using a Wiseco Suzuki TS250 piston. Read more here...
